Young full back steps upFull back Shane Griffin spoke to Reading FC Player after taking part in our challenge match with Oman on Saturday afternoon.
It was the Irish youth international's first experience of senior football, having graduated through our Academy this summer - playing a key part in the under 18s side that reached the Premier League final last season.
The full interview with Shane, alongside chats with Jordan Obita, Stephen Kelly and full highlights from the Oman game will soon be available on Reading FC Player.
Fantastic experience for you today Shane?
It was a great experience playing with some top class players. All the lads made me feel welcome, speaking to me both before the game and during the game. It was just a great experience.
Oman played some great football at times...
They played very well, passed the ball and tried to play the right way. They did well against us and tried to press us in at times, they were a good team.
You must be looking forward to progressing as a professional after a great season with the Academy last year?
I've been training with the 21s, Martin Kuhl is great to work with and I've been working hard every day. Its good getting the experience training during the week with the first team; Dean, Andy and the gaffer are all very good coaches and make the youngsters feel very welcome.
You must learn a lot from Stephen Kelly, a fellow Irishman and of course a full back?
It's brilliant. He spoke to me before the game and during the game, he's always giving me tips and advice as to what to do. He's a very nice guy.
What was it like playing in front of the Reading fans today?
It was great to see them come down and support us. As I said it made for a great experience overall, I'm delighted.
