Sharp: Gaffer's faith key

26 September 2013

Royals striker's exclusive interview

New signing Billy Sharp believes the faith shown in him by manager Nigel Adkins was a key factor in his decision to join the Royals.

The prolific frontman trained with his new teammates for the first time at Hogwood Park on Thursday morning, and spoke exclusively to Reading FC Player about his move.

“This is the third time I’ve worked with the gaffer now, and it is nice that he still believes in me and that helps a lot,” said Sharp.

“As a footballer it’s all about believing, it helps your confidence. Hopefully I can get my confidence high, hit the ground running and score some goals. I want to be a real asset for this club.”

It wasn’t just the coaching staff that the 27-year-old was reunited with; former Sheffield United teammate Mikele Leigertwood was also back in training this afternoon.

“He’s not got any smaller! He’s a good guy – it’s nice to know someone when you go to a club. Hopefully I can build a good relationship with the rest of the lads and be a real good addition to the squad. I’m absolutely delighted to have signed. We have Birmingham on Saturday, hopefully I can be in the squad and get my debut – but that is up to the manager.”
