Reading U21s 2 - 0 Dagenham & Redbridge XIReading U21s 2 (Taylor 12, 30)
Dagenham & Redbridge XI 0
A first half brace from Jake Taylor secured a deserved friendly win for our under-21s against Dagenham & Redbridge at Hogwood Park.
The Daggers named a side with a blend of youth and first team players, but our youngsters coped well with the League Two outfit and were worthy winners on Tuesday afternoon.
In the September sunshine at the Royals' training ground, it was captain Taylor who gave Martin Kuhl's side the lead. He forced the Dagenham goalkeeper into a save from his initial shot, then followed up to give Reading the lead.
The Royals dominated possession throughout the half and were looking for a second goal, which did come after half an hour. Aaron Tshibola let fire from 20-yards out, and Taylor was again in the right place at the right time as he got enough on the ball to guide it into the back of the net.
The Londoners had chances of their own throughout the game but were thwarted by goalkeeper Stuart Moore and the Reading defence.
Dagenham shored things up at the back in the second half as the Royals introduced Academy players Dominic Hyam, Liam Kelly and Jack Stacey into the fray.
The visitors had a chance to haul themselves back into the game when the referee pointed to the spot, but Reading 'keeper Moore produced a smart save to retain his clean sheet.
Kuhl's youngsters could have added to their lead as they often pushed forwards towards the end of the first half, but the friendly matched ended 2-0.
Our under-21s return to Barclays Under 21 Premier League action next week, as they travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.
