'What It Takes' analysis

'The Royal' looks into what you need to go up

Both Reading and Leeds United fans, as well as most other supporters throughout the division at this early stage of the season, will have set their sights on promotion. As we all know, it's not easy, but tonight's programme takes an in depth look at what historically it has taken to make it into a promotion place.

This season, 'The Royal' is featuring a 15-page feature at the reverse of the programme in honour of the 15 years we have spent at Madejski Stadium - and this evening's issue analyses the points you have needed to tally and the goals you have needed to score to make it into the Premier League - something Reading have achieved twice of course.

In the main body of the programme, centre half Sean Morrison speaks exclusively on the start we've had, his captaincy in the last few games, the joyous feeling of promotion and his role as class clown amongst the lads.

We review our latest under-21 and under-18 performances and bring news of an under-21 cup competition and promotion and relegation plans next season.

Our historical sections profile Tommy Youlden and birthday boy Kevin Doyle, who turns 30 years old today. We also have manager Nigel Adkins and captain Jobi McAnuff on the return of Brian McDermott and Nigel well as Noel Hunt on the pitch!

The programme is still only £3, remains perfect bound, 84 pages long and jam-packed with content. You can buy your copy from one of our two programme pods at the ground, from our sellers dotted around the stadium concourses, from the megastore and the Ticket Office - and if you miss a copy you can even buy your issue online at
