A champagne-soaked Eamonn Dolan on cup glory
"It's a really good day for Reading Football Club. A day this club deserves."
Those words began Academy Manager Eamonn Dolan
's post match reaction interview with Reading FC Player after watching our under-21s make history on Saturday afternoon.
Reading Football Club became the first name to be engraved on the U21 Premier League Cup with a 2-0 win over Patrick Vieira's Manchester City this weekend and, having been doused in champagne by the players, Dolan spoke to us, so proud of our historic cup victory.
"We didn't play how we would have liked in the first half, but credit to Manchester City, they're a good outfit. We felt we deserved to win the first leg with the way we played, be we've got our heads down and got on with it. And we definitely earned our luck.
"As I say, it wasn't a vintage performance from us in the first half, but in the second half Kuhly kept tinkering with it and we found the right formula. And in the end, the boys really deserved it.
"It's a fantastic football club, full of fantastic people. It's a real team effort and I'm so pleased for so many people.
"Everyone is working so hard to help this club progress, make its future, help make it sustainable.
"It's a privilege to work for Reading Football Club and I'm full of hope for the future, and I'm not just talking about the Academy, I'm talking about the club as a whole.
"The support the manager has given us is immense. He's got an expression, 'together as one' and he gives me great hope for the future.
"This season has not been easy, and the manager, the Chairman, the Director of Football, the Chief Exec, the fans, they deserve days like this."
