Adkins targets three wins

22 April 2014

Boss ready for Boro test

Manager Nigel Adkins is aiming for three wins from our final three League games.

We take on Middlesbrough tonight at Madejski Stadium, kick off 8pm, and three points would put us back in the top six after another topsy-turvy set of results.

Our destiny is now back in our hand and nine points from nine would see us finish in the play-offs, with the boss calling for grit and determination to get us over the line.

He said, "We need to grasp the opportunity we have, with a hunger to win the game.

"We want to go and win a game in front of our own fans. We're due a win at home, we've had some good performances and some indifferent ones. Now we look forward to the next one, the most important one.

"What the other teams around us do is irrelevant. We are just looking at us, and we need to win three games. We can't affect others, the only way to catch those above us is by winning games."

Asked to reflect on our own form in recent weeks, the boss said, "We've had good away form, but drawn too many at home. It's a very competitive league. Friday we played an excellent Wigan side, we've got to regroup and go again.

"We can't affect what's gone on before, we just look to the future, which is very bright here, when you look at the Under 21s winning the Premier League Cup and the Under 18s getting to the semi-final of the Youth Cup. The lads were superb. Great credit to Eamonn Dolan. Martin Kuhl and all of the players.

"So the infrastructure is right, but the here and the now is the Middlesbrough game and we have to win. We know on any given day we can beat anyone, so we have to win the next one.

"I love this stage of the season because this is what it's all about. When I was at Scunthorpe we got into the play-offs in the last two minutes of the season in a year when Leicester won the League. The only we can keep our season alive like that is to throw everything into the Middlesbrough game."

Tickets for tonight's game are cheaper when bought before 5pm - full details here.
