Adkins waits on injuries

17 April 2014

Players given 'best possible chance'

Nigel Adkins will give his injury hit Royals players the best possible chance to recover in time for Good Friday's vital clash with Wigan Athletic.

The Reading squad has been decimated at times in the current campaign, with Jordan Obita, Garath McCleary and Danny Williams all coming off with injuries in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

"What we know for sure is that Mikele Leigertwood is ineligible, Jem Karacan is out for the season and Danny Guthrie is ruled out," Adkins told Reading FC Player.

"Everyone else we will give the best possible chance. Nobody from the rest of the group has been ruled out, we will just have to wait and see. But what I will say is whatever the situation, we will have a group of players desperate to play and vying to start."

The Latics are currently one place, three points and one goal ahead of Adkins' men in the table - and the manager has given credit to Uwe Rosler's side for their impressive campaign.

"Wigan have been magnificent, they’ve had a lot of games and just missed out in the semi-final of FA Cup, whilst having played in the Europa League as well. They play good football and change the formations around, utilising a big squad. They want to get back at the first time of asking and so do we. We are looking forward to it - at this stage of the season the emphasis on the results and the magnitude of the results grows and grows."
