"Character and belief"

Goalscorer Stacey reflects on massive win

Having scored but suffered the heartbreak of defeat in the second leg of the FA Youth Cup semi-final, Jack Stacey stroked home the winner at Madejski Stadium this afternoon to crown our under-21s side as inaugural U21 Premier League Cup winner with victory over Manchester City.

"It's unbelievable," he told Reading FC Player on the pitch amidst cup-lifting celebrations.

"For my goal, it was the same sort of situation against Fulham here in the FA Youth Cup first leg, when I won the penalty.

"I thought the keeper might have taken me down again, but you can't beat that feeling of relief when I went round the keeper and put it into an empty net.

"Then for the last ten minutes we just defended so well, it was brilliant from the boys."

There is something special about Reading Football Club's Academy right now...

"We were 2-0 up in the first leg and we lost it 3-2. But we had that character, we had that belief, that confidence.

"We know how we can play and we knew we could come out here and beat Manchester City - a massive team who have spent a lot of money on their Youth Academy. And we've beaten them here today. Amazing."
