Midfielder on play-off push
Mikele Leigertwood believes the Royals need to capitalise on the momentum gained with back to back wins ahead of a crunch game with Burnley on Saturday.
A thrilling second half comeback at Doncaster has propelled Reading back into the play-offs, though a tough test lies in wait at Madejski Stadium in the form of Sean Dyche’s already promoted Clarets.
“We’ve gained confidence, we’ve got two wins in a row and now we have to take that form into this game,” said Mikele.
“We should be confident, there’s no reason why we can’t go on and put in another home performance. There is a big opportunity and a big prize at stake. Against Doncaster we tried to create the same atmosphere as Middlesbrough in the changing room before hand, we had to dig deep and show determination and character.”
Determination is certainly something the vastly experienced midfielder, who has over 400 professional games under his belt, has had to show this season, after enduring a year long battle with injury.
“Obviously on a personal note it was important for me to get 90 minutes under my belt, 95 minutes as the case was, I was pleased. There was no doubt I was finding my feet in the first half but I gained confidence throughout and surprisingly I feel quite good now! I made a sprint towards the end of the game, to chase the goalie down, and then we scored. Jobi said ‘come and celebrate’ but I was like ‘I can’t get there!’
