Women strengthen squad

3 April 2014

Pond joins Royals

Reading FC Women have added more strength to their squad with the capture of the vastly experienced Eartha Pond.

Pond, who can play in a number of positions, has had an impressive career to date, representing the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and more recently Everton. She has also had a spell playing in America.

“It is fantastic to be here and get the papers signed - I'm looking forward to the season ahead,” she told Reading FC Player.

“We’ve got some great young talent coming through and I’m looking forward to playing with them and putting across my experience to the team. It’s just about playing football, I’m passionate about making sure I’m out there on that pitch.”

Eartha has previously won the Women’s Premier League, and her new manager Jayne Ludlow is delighted to have her on board.

The Royals’ first game in WSL2 is on Wednesday 16th April, with a 7.45pm kick off at Madejski Stadium – and entry for the clash with Yeovil is free to all.

“It is fantastic news Eartha has decided to join us,” said the Reading FC Women boss. “She brings a lot of experience into the team, she’s a very versatile player, a strong, tough player as well and the type of player we were really looking to get in before the end of the transfer window. We’d love a big crowd for the first game, it would be fantastic for the girls to walk out onto the pitch and have the crowd roaring them on. We’ve prepared well, we just need to go out there and show them what we can do.”
