Adkins on Ipswich, 'keepers and more

Boss previews Saturday

Nigel Adkins spoke to the media ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Ipswich Town at Madejski Stadium. Here's what he said...

On Ipswich

They’re a very good side and a massive challenge for us. We played them on the first game of last season and it was a close encounter. They're a good football team – they’ve got a big side as well so from a set pieces point of view they’ve got six big’uns in there who will cause a threat from set plays, but they can play also football with the wide players coming off the line.

Mick’s a great manager and I’ve got massive respect for him, so we’re under no illusions this is going to be a really challenging fixture for us. They got off to a good start last week, beating Fulham. But we’re at home and everyone’s going to get behind the players. We’ve got a young, ambitious group of players who have started the season well and we’re looking forward to the game.

on Jay Tabb

Jay has done great - unfortunately we didn’t have an opportunity to utilise Jay when we arrived while he was away on loan. But he’s a real industrious player who works extremely hard, and he scored a goal that day at Madejski Stadium last year so hopefully that’s his only one, and he doesn’t come and reproduce that on the weekend.

On Goalkeepers

As I said to Alex, Feds has had a superb pre-season. He’s come back in great shape, looked after himself ever so well and worked extremely hard. He's very impressive on the training ground and in games – plays out form the back extremely well. I thought he deserved his opportunity to start the game and he he did ever so well.

I think we’ve got some exceptional goalkeepers at this football club. Alex played all last year, Feds was ultra-professional all the way through the season. Alex came and played on Tuesday, I’d made that call and told them on the Friday – and he’s gone and performed well the other night in a victory.

On conceding late

It's something we’ve talked about when we’ve reflected on the game. It’s down to that little bit of focus, individual concentration.

On a Royals #WallOfColour

It will be great. Hopefully there'll be a big crowd full of blue and white with everyone looking forward to it.
