Royals boss delighted with capture

Manager Nigel Adkins has expressed his delight at the captures of Simon Cox and Jamie Mackie.

The Royals boss revealed that he had tracked both players for some time, even prior to taking over the reins at Madejski Stadium.

Adkins on Cox
“Simon actually played against us when we were at Scunthorpe and he was at Northampton – we’d gone 20 odd games undefeated and could’ve got promoted against them - but we were beaten on the day and he was instrumental in that. He was one that at a young age caught my eye, and we’ve kept an eye on him all the way through. When he went to Swindon where I thought he was phenomenal and he got his move to the Premier League. He’s a good age, he knows this football club and so he’s got a feeling for it. He’s played in the Championship, Premier League and International football. He’s got a vast amount of experience, he’s hungry – I’ve had a good conversation for him and I’m delighted that he’ll be with us.”

Adkins on Mackie
“There are always players that you have been tracking over a long period of time. I remember seeing Jamie when he played against Scunthorpe for Plymouth and he was so industrious. Like Simon Cox he’s a good age, works hard and for me a player I’m delighted to bring in on loan. There have been a lot lots of rumours about players were are bringing in – some have been way off the mark and some are a little closer."
