Novakovich 'perfect hat-trick' downs AFC Wimbledon

Reading U21s 4-0 AFC Wimbledon U21s

  • American U20 international hits three past Wimbledon
  • Striker joined the Academy this summer
  • Liam Kelly with the other goal

A 'perfect hat-trick' from American U20 international Andrija Novakovich gave the Royals Under 21s a 4-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon this past weekend.

The Academy prospect, who joined the club this summer, bagged a brace with goals from both feet before heading home to earn the matchball - after Liam Kelly had opened the scoring for Martin Kuhl's men.

Kelly scampered through on goal after breaking the offside trap early on at Hogwood Park, coolly slotting home to give Reading the lead.

Novakovich, who was recently on target for the US in summer friendlies with Chile & Bermuda, doubled the lead after tenacious work from Sammi Fridjonsson allowed the forward to fire left footed into the bottom right hand corner.

The 18-year-old then showed good footwork before firing home right footed for his second of the afternoon - and completed his hat-trick by nodding home Sean Long's pinpoint cross.

4-0 it finished - and the 21s can now focus on the start of their league campaign.

Royals: Lincoln; Long, Griffin (McLennan 71), Cooper (Dickie 71), Sweeney; Shaughnessy, Fridjonsson, Fosu, L.Kelly, Owusu; Vastsuk (Novakovich, 48)
