Cardiff win pre-season game

Reading's under-21s were narrowly defeated by Cardiff City in a 4-3 thriller at Hogwood Park on Monday afternoon.

Kadeem Harris put the visitors ahead in the pre-season clash with an unstoppable drive past Royals goalkeeper Jon Henly.

Our right-back Jake Sheppard equalised after 25 minutes, after his cross fooled City goalkeeper Ben Wilson and flew into the back of the net.

But moments later, Cardiff were 2-1 up after Deji Oshilaja scored with an acrobatic strike following an effort which hit the woodwork.

City then extended their lead when Harris struck the bar, before Etien Velikonja netted from close range to put Cardiff 3-1 up.

The deficit was reduced just before half time. From a corner, Royals defender Dom Hyam headed against the bar, before striker Dom Samuel headed into an empty net.

After the break, Cardiff restored their two-goal advantage when Harris converted the ball into the goal after a scramble.

But the Royals set up a nervy last half hour when USA youth international Andrija Novakovich ran through to score past Wilson to make it 4-3.

Novakovich almost made it 4-4 moments later after some good work from Samuel, who rounded the 'keeper, but neither could get enough contact on the ball to reach the net.

Royals midfielder Sammi Fridjonsson then had an acrobatic effort well saved before Novakovich denied by Wilson at the death.

Reading XI: Henly; Sheppard, Owusu, Hyam, McLennan; Shaughnessy, Husin, L.Kelly, Vastsuk, Fosu; Samuel.

Subs on: Lincoln (HT), Akinwumni, Collins, Novakovich (60 min)
