Gunners win 1-0 at Basingstoke
Reading's under-21s were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in their first Premier League Division Two game of the season at Basingstoke Town.
The Gunners scored the game's only goal midway through the first half after they were awarded a penalty - referee R Atkin pointing to the spot after a Pierce Sweeney handball.
Striker Chuba Akpom stepped up and converted the spot kick past Royals goalkeeper Dan Lincoln.
Royals forward Dom Samuel the best of Reading's chances but the visitors stood firm for 90 minutes.
Arsenal therefore took all three points, while Martin Kuhl's men will look to bounce back next Monday afternoon away at Newcastle United.
