Adkins on injury listManager Nigel Adkins has added Shaun Cummings and Nick Blackman to an unprecedented injury list that already saw 12 players unavailable in midweek.
Cummings was on the end of a very high challenge in the first minute of the game at Scunthorpe, and could be out for some time with a knee injury.
Blackman was also hurt at Glanford Park on Tuesday night, and he too needs an MRI scan to ascertain the full extent of the damage.
The boss said, "It's fair to say we've got a phenomenal amount of players out.
"We had 12 out on Tuesday, since then Norwood is back but we've lost Blackman, Cummings and possibly one more.
"Hopefully one or two will be able to put themselves forward for selection but that won't be sure until Saturday morning.
"We're down to the bare bones, Shaun Cummings is out after an horrendous challenge, shocking challenge. He manfully carried on but is in a knee brace and it doesn't look too good ahead of a scan.
"We lost Nick Blackman as well, he was down for a while during the game with a knee injury and he's also having a scan which is not great. So that's two more on the list.
"We've got a handful of players that will still be out for a good couple of months, but also a handful of players we can hopefully get fit during the international break.
"On saying that, we've got some players going away as well! Both at senior and under 21 level."
Sidelined on Tuesday were Obita, Kelly, Hector, Ferdinand, Karacan, Guthrie, Williams, McCleary, Robson-Kanu, Pogrebnyak and Tshibola, plus the cup-tied Norwood.
The boss expects a tough game up at Middlesbrough this coming weekend, and Boro have made a solid start to the new campaign.
He said, "They're having a go with their recruitment. They want to have a go, they've spent a bit of money. They've got a squad of players and they will be expecting to win the game.
"It'll be a tough game, the third travelling game in a week but everyone's going up there to work extremely hard to get something from the game."
