Adkins: "We're in with a shout"With 14 games left of this 2013/14 Sky Championship season, Nigel Adkins says the Royals should enjoy the remainder of the season, as the exciting promotion race nears the final furlong.
The first of those matches is Yeovil Town at Madejski Stadium on Saturday, a team that Reading narrowly beat 1-0 earlier this season away from home in a close encounter.
"It will be a good test, that's if our game down there in August is anything to go by," he told Reading FC Player. "Gary Johnson's teams are always notoriously challenging to play against. They play good football.
"But it's about us, we're at home. I thought it was a great atmosphere last week, just a shame about the result. But we've got honest, hard-working football players and staff at this football club."
The atmosphere was something the boss was keen to stress, as he praised our supporters for their contribution last weekend and hopes the Royals faithful are once again backing the players in the numbers this weekend.
"If the supporters can right behind the players again and make it a great atmosphere for everybody, I'm sure the players are going to work extremely hard and see if we can put the ball in the back of the net!
"We've got to make sure that the atmosphere keeps blossoming and growing, because we should really enjoy what's happening at the football club. We should enjoy the remainder of the season - we're in with a shout, and we've just got to keep working hard for each other.
"We're really excited about the game, we hope it'll be a good atmosphere with a lot of fans coming down, we're all together and we're looking forward to it."
Adkins also had praise for both our under-18 and under-21 sides who are both enjoying cup fruitful runs, and says the spirit within the camp will be crucial for this final stretch.
"The under-18s are in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals against Liverpool, the under-21s are in the Premier League Cup semi-final against Arsenal - it's great sentiment.
"The first team had their best start to a season for many years, we've had to deal with so many situations during the course of the year, but we're in there with a shout.
"We've got 14 games left, and they will come think and fast. But we've got a spirit about ourselves, we've got a way of playing that everyone's comfortable with."
