Adkins: No letting up

7 February 2014

"The lads have trained really well"

Manager Nigel Adkins says that the Royals' overriding goal this Saturday is to continue the excellent form the side has shown over the past month.

Reading will come up against Sheffield Wednesday at Madejski Stadium this weekend, a team that have also been on a fine run of form - with no defeat in all competitions since 21st December with now permanent manager Stuart Gray making a real impact at Hillsborough.

"The foot is firmly down on the pedal, there's no letting up on the good form that we've had of late - so everybody is contributing, making a difference, working hard for each other and the atmosphere here is great," Adkins told Reading FC Player.

"Stu has taken over in full time capacity, and they're in a rich rein of form similar to ourselves. They don't concede many goals, they haven't been losing games, but again it's a game that we're looking forward to.

"We're very, very positive. It's wet and it's windy but we're expecting that on Saturday too - it's good preparation for the game.

"Great credit to the groundstaff, because they're working extremely hard to make sure we've got a playing surface so we can go out and train - and the lads have trained really well this week."

Adkins also praised man of the moment Adam Le Fondre, who scooped the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month accolade for January.

"He's done really well, scoring two hat-tricks and for me the important thing is the partnership he's got with Pavel Pogrebnyak. They are working so hard for the team.

"We've always talking about Alfie being a goalscorer, but for me he's added the other side to his game in a really positive manner, so well done to him."
