No Wednesday hangover for Royals
Nigel Adkins told his pre-match press conference that his side’s confidence was not at all effected by defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, as they prepare to travel to Loftus Road this Sunday.
Harry Redknapp’s outfit sit three points outside the automatic promotion spots with a game in hand, with the 3.30pm kick off to be televised on Sky Sports.
“We’re in a good place, the spirit is there, there’s a belief about everybody and we look a threat every time we’ve got the ball, there’s a good solid shape there too,” said Adkins.
“We sampled playing against them in the Premier League, we’ve already played them on Sky this season which was an exciting game. Results may not have gone our way in the week but we’re very positive and we’re looking forward to the rest of the season. Players are pulling in the same direction and we go to Loftus Road with confidence and belief in ourselves that we can go and do something.”
News that Alex Pearce’s one game ban for a dismissal against the Owls has been overturned was a boost to the Royals in midweek, although the manager admitted the decision still ultimately cost them dearly last time out at Madejski Stadium.
“It doesn’t change the effect of losing the game at the weekend because we started the game really well and viewing the game back we just didn’t get the rub of the green at times. We could’ve been 2-0 up and in the first half even with ten men I thought we were the better team.
“But at least he’s available for selection for the next game. I have to say I have the utmost respect for the officials, they do what they think is right at the time and we have the benefit of hindsight and video footage when we talk about it.”
