Akpan & Guthrie fit

6 February 2014

Team news ahead of Saturday

Manager Nigel Adkins confirmed that midfielders Hope Akpan and Danny Guthrie have recovered from injury and are set to be available for selection this Saturday.

The Royals take on Sheffield Wednesday at Madejski Stadium this weekend and Akpan (shin) is fit again after he was forced off early on during last weekend's win at Millwall, while Guthrie is back after a month out with a calf problem.

Speaking to Reading FC Player, Adkins was full of praise for many of his players, "I'm really pleased that Danny Guthrie has now had a week's training so that gives us another midfield option.

"We look at the front four with Pav and Alfie working so hard for each other, complimenting each other so well. We've Garath on one wing, Jobi on the other, and they're both backed up by Chrissy Gunter and Jordan Obita. We've got massive threats out wide, we've got pace, we've got power.

"But I must say that Danny Williams, who scored last week, and Hope Akpan have really risen to the challenge over the last few games. They've put in some really good shifts, have grown in confidence and are doing really well for the team.

"You look at Hal Robson-Kanu coming off the bench, Nick Blackman coming off the bench, Jake Taylor coming off the bench. Hal and Nick both scored fantastic goals, and everyone is having a right good go for each other."
