Le Fondre Player of the Month
Reading striker Adam Le Fondre has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for January.
Two predatory hat-tricks in successive home games underpinned 7-1 and 5-1 wins against Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool respectively.
The victories owed everything to his instinctive positioning, sharpness and coolness in front of goal.
Reading manager Nigel Adkins said: "He's done really well, scoring two hat-tricks and for me the important thing is the partnership he's got with Pavel Pogrebnyak. They are working so hard for the team. We're always talking about Alfie being a goalscorer, but for me he's added the other side to his game in a really positive manner, so well done to him.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Back-to-back hat-tricks at home against Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool capped off a brilliant month for Reading’s predatory striker.
“The Royals will need to keep Le Fondre firing on all cylinders to maintain their push for a Play-Off spot.”
Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins said: “Le Fondre has been putting teams to the sword at the Madejski Stadium this month. With 13 goals so far this season he will be looking to break the magical 20-goal barrier and fire his side into the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs.”
The Player of the Month judging panel comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins.
