Alex Pearce believes Reading have the quality to succeed in the Sky Bet Championship this season, and has praised the club for keeping hold of the squad’s best assets in the transfer window.

The central defender has seen his side pick up four wins in five games in the New Year, and whilst he is keeping focussed – has no doubt that Nigel Adkins’ men have potential.

“We got that win at Watford and that built a platform for us, a way to play and how to be,” said Pearce.

“We’re a very solid team, we all know what we’re doing. We all know each other’s jobs. It’s not rocket science, you see the quality we’ve got and if we keep solid and do our jobs we have lethal players in this division. We just need to give those players the ball - I’m stood there at the back thinking ‘I wouldn’t want to play against you’."

“It was a really positive move from the club withstanding that (interest in the transfer window). Credit to the club for getting the body armor on and staying strong!”

The Irish international scored his first goal at club level since March 2012 in the 3-0 win at The Den this past weekend, and the relief was there for all to see with another of his trademark celebartions!

“I’ve been getting a bit of ribbing from coaching and playing staff so when it went in you saw the celebration from myself! I have a bit of a name for celebrating like that anyway….it just means so much to me. I want to score as many goals as I can and keep keeping clean sheets. As a team we want to build on that now, the boys in there are really high on confidence and we want to start building momentum.”
