What's in 'The Royal'?

28 February 2014

FA Youth Cup focus and Taylor exclusive inside!

What does this weekend's programme promise? Well, you can read all about Jake Taylor's aspirations for a plane ticket to Rio this summer (no, Wales haven't qualified!). The young midfielder was a season-ticket holder when the Royals first won promotion to the Premier League so he knows how a season-run in feels from the fans' perspective as well as a player's.

The Showcase feature at the back of the issue is one not to miss - it honours our historic FA Youth Cup run to the quarter-finals this season, previewing the last eight clash against Liverpool, speaking exclusively to captain Aaron Kuhl and coach David Dodds as well as running through some of the famous faces who have won the tournament in the 52 years it's been running to date.

And we also remember the only other time our under-18s made it to the quarter-finals of the competition and the players who emerged from that youth side back in 1988 to make it onto the big stage in the blue and white hoops of the first team!

The manager gives his take on the huge number of players, first team and Academy, who will be heading out on international duty next week, while skipper Jobi McAnuff talks about performing at the level we know we are capable on a consistent basis.

We bring you up to date with all the Women's Super League preparations, ahead of a Madejski Stadium curtain-raiser for the women against...Yeovil Town next month! And of course we have all the information you need on the men's team who travel to Madejski Stadium this weekend.

High scoring striker Ron Blackman is the historical figure given a character reference in this edition, while we have competitions galore for Young Royals and loyal supporters of all ages.

The programme is still only £3, remains perfect bound, 84 pages long and jam-packed with content. You can buy your copy from one of our two programme pods at the ground, from our sellers dotted around the stadium concourses, from the megastore and the Ticket Office - and if you miss a copy you can even buy your issue online at readingfcdirect.co.uk.
