Alfie: We dismantled them

18 January 2014

Hat-trick hero speaks to Player

Adam Le Fondre became the first Royals star to score a hat-trick since Kevin Doyle against Crystal Palace in August 2008 on Saturday afternoon. He spoke to Reading FC Player shortly after picking up his man of the match award...

Hat trick hero! The first hat-trick from any Reading player since August 2008, it must be a great honour?
Of course. Scoring three in a game is a brilliant honour for any player, I’ve got chances today and I’ve put them away. It was a brilliant team performance all round

A remarkable day – to score seven as a team in any competition at any level is remarkable.
Definitely and it’s not against a bad team either; Bolton have got a team full of Premier League experience there, we’ve dismantled them if we’re honest. Like you say a great performance from the boys.

Twelve assists for Garath McCleary now…I think you said you always knew he was going to square it for your third!
Me and 'G' have got this thing where I just know he’ll pass it to me no matter what. I probably wouldn’t return the favour because I’m greedy! But he’s a brilliant player and he’s been fantastic for me and everyone. He sets up chances and is a real threat.

Someone else you’ve also paid tribute to is your strike partner Pavel Pogrebnyak…
Me and Pav have had a great partnership, whenever we start together we have been quality. We’ve been resolute, working from the front and I think that’s what we’ve needed – the rest has come up from there. The big man deserved his goal so the boys wanted to see him take the penalty.

And a word on your relationship with the fans…I don’t think I’ve heard an ovation like that for a player coming off the field in some time!
The fans are magnificent. I can’t thank them enough, ever since I’ve come here they’ve been great with me and long may it continue.

Hopefully the two wins in a row will help the club push on, given the momentum going forward?
We’re predominantly a second half of the season team, we’ve got to take the momentum now – go up to Ipswich and go from there.
