Consistent selection

31 January 2014

Adkins on his XI

Manager Nigel Adkins is very pleased to have been able to pick the same starting XI for four consecutive games, and says it is no coincidence that it has brought about a positive run of results.

The boss expects to utilise the same group when we take on Millwall this weekend, saying, "We've picked the same team for four games, there's no coincidence that we've had a level of consistency.

"The players are working extremely hard for each other, which is important. With the confidence at this moment in time, we're in a good place.

"So I'd suggest I'll be sticking with the same group this weekend that did so well in midweek.

"We've been trying to get a steady team for some time, but since losing players in the Leeds game back in September we've had players out, and we've had players out for a long time.

"Every week we had a disruption for one reason or another, which is why you need a squad. But the lads are working hard for each other, and it bodes well for the remainder of the season.

"We've had good players sidelined, but we've found a consistency in performance and have a goal threat around the team. You can see how hard they're working for the cause."

The boss also confirmed that Chris Baird is stepping up his rehab at Hogwood Park, his initial contract having come to a conclusion.

He continued, "In terms of injuries, all being well Danny Guthrie will have a good week of training next week.

"Sean Morrison and Wayne Bridge have been outside for the first part of training, which is positive."
