Ofori nets in late defeat

27 January 2014

Royals U18s 1-2 Fulham U18s

The attack-minded Germaine Ofori scored for our under-18s this past Saturday, but league leaders Fulham took all three points thanks to a fortunate goal right at the death.

Four changes were made to the side that beat Crewe Alexandra on penalties in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup, with the upcoming under-21s cup game with Watford in mind.

Reading took the lead at Hogwood Park just before half time when Cottagers goalkeeper Marek Rodák parried a strike to the feet of Ofori, who made no mistake from close range.

It was Germaine's first Royals goal of the season, having recently impressed while gaining experience at Didcot Town in recent weeks.

Fulham drew level just after the hour mark when a great cross from Noe Baba was met by striker Dean O’Halloran who powered home a header.

With the game heading for a draw, the Whites snatched the win in the 88th minute when Evans’ 20-yard strike fortuitously clipped the heel of his own teammate Elijah Adebayo and flew into the back of the net.

Reading: Ward; Watson, Owusu, Dickie, Hyam; Fridjonsson, Shaughnessy, Ofori, Lawal; Husin (Collins, 80), Jeffrey.

Fulham: Rodák, Baba, Donnelly, Adebayo, Evans, Sambou (Sheckleford 80), Hyndman (Redford 70), Leacock-McLeod (Smile 55), Williams, Roberts, O’Halloran.
