Williams: 'Fans lift us'

15 January 2014

Danny on home advantage

Danny Williams underlined the importance of our supporters at Madejski Stadium, ahead of this Saturday's home Sky Bet Championship fixture against Bolton Wanderers.

The Royals were backed by more than 1,500 excellent away supporters who were in good voice to help Nigel Adkins' men over the line during our 1-0 win at Watford, in which Kaspars Gorkss' early goal was enough.

And the American midfielder says that another strike in the opening stages this weekend will be key.

"It's important that when we play at home we start well," he told BBC Radio Berkshire. "It's always good to score within the first 15-20 minutes because it lifts the confidence of every player and it's also important to get our fans behind us.

"Sometimes if we don't start that well the crowd can get a little nervous, so it's important to get off to a good start.

"Jobi is an massively important player for us. Obviously he has great experience and is always positive," he added.

"It's good for every team in this league to have a captain like that. Even during tough times like we experience over the last three weeks, he was the one who was a really good leader and you can see why he is the captain."
