Boss to extend squad game time

25 July 2014

Adkins previews Wycombe friendly

Manager Nigel Adkins says the squad will be fully utilised this weekend as the Royals prepare for two pre-season fixtures.

A younger side will take on Boreham Wood on Friday evening before Reading face Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Saturday afternoon, and the boss revealed that game time will be extended.

"We'll go to Boreham Wood on Friday night and then to Wycombe on Saturday," he told Reading FC Player. "We'll extend the game time of the players, and utilise the squad across the two games.

"We need to keep building on what we've been doing. For me, I'm really pleased with how the players have progressed."

"The team spirit is magnificent, and everyone has been stepping up to the plate."

Adkins has been delighted with Reading's young squad during pre-season, which has included a win over Exeter City and a draw at Yeovil Town - both productive exercises for the squad.

"The lads have been working hard, and I've been delighted with them," he added.

"We've got a really hungry, young group of players and I'm very happy with how they are applying themselves. It's a pre-season to give ourselves an opportunity this year."
