More on McCleary, Guthrie and Robson-Kanu
Nigel Adkins gave an injury update following the Royals’ 1-0 friendly win away to Exeter City on Tuesday evening.
Garath McCleary, Danny Guthrie and Hal Robson-Kanu were absent from the matchday squad as a first half goal from Ryan Edwards gave Reading a solid start to pre-season.
“Garath had an operation on his back today so we’ll see how that goes,” said the manager.
“He’s not been training with us from the start of pre-season and it doesn’t look like he’ll bit fit for the start of the season which is a shame. We wish him well on that.
“Danny Guthrie had a scan on his calf yesterday after feeling it in training so we just want to clear that up and he’ll join us tomorrow. Hal Robson-Kanu was also feeling his calf, though he probably could have played tonight – we just didn’t want to take that risk. He should be fine for Saturday.”
A separate eleven played in each half at St James’ Park, Adam Federici and Mikkel Andersen splitting the goalkeeping duties – with Adkins confirming that Alex McCarthy would be in action at Yeovil Town on Saturday.
