Ryan keen to impress in Madejski friendly

31 July 2014

Edwards previews Swansea this Saturday

Midfielder Ryan Edwards spoke after Tuesday night's friendly at Stevenage, and says he can't wait to play at Madejski Stadium this Saturday as the Royals take on Swansea City in their last pre-season friendly. Ryan has had his shirt number changed from 36 to 17 - check out our Player Profiles in full here.

Ryan, another pre-season game under your belt after drawing 0-0 at Stevenage - what are you going to take away from this game?

It was another good run out, the boys got 90 minutes which was really good. It was pleasing to go away from home and kept a clean sheet. Very physical game, and we’re going to get that in the Championship so I suppose we’ll take that from the game.

Now we look forward to Saturday's friendly with Swansea at Madejski Stadium. Reading fans might be a little bit unfamiliar with you, so I suppose you’re looking forward to showing what you can do?

Definitely. It's the last friendly game for us before we go into the first league game the following Saturday, so it'll definitely good to get a home game in front of the good fans we have, and we'll hopefully have a good support base come to the game.

I haven’t played many games at Madejski, maybe a couple of youth games when I was with the 18s. When I've watched games and there's been around 20,000 there, the sound is amazing, so I’m definitely looking forward to the game and hopefully I get to be in the team and get some minutes and show what I can do to the fans.

It'll be a good test for us, coming up against a Premier League outfit?

Of course. Obviously, they’re a great footballing side with some top players, so we'll hope for another good week at the training ground and look forward to the Swansea game.

I think Reading deserve to be in the Premier League anyway, so that’s where we want to be and we want to play against the best. We’ve been working hard in training to play like we should in the Premier League, and we're all looking forward to the game.

And hopefully, the supporters will come down in their numbers to Madejski stadium and back the boys.

Yeah definitely, in our pre-season games the fans still travelled in their numbers to watch us, and the sound of them was amazing. Hopefully we can get that support again this Saturday, and it will be a nice afternoon for us.
