Thanks Jack! The story behind the shirt...

Mansell inspires new strip

With hoops front and back of the home shirt and a traditional collar - the Royals' new strip for the 2014/15 campaign gained inspiration from some of the greatest moments in the club's history - and from one man in particular!

Jack Mansell took over as Reading manager in 1969 - and as well as turning the Biscuitmen into a high scoring outfit, brought back the traditional hoops - following a four year period in which the club played in an unusual sky blue number.

The build up to the reveal of our kits has been marked by a series of 'Royal Memories' videos on our official YouTube channel - where key figures from the strips that inspired the current jerseys spoke about their memories of representing the Royals and told what it meant to pull on the hoops.
