U21s Hit Five Past Hemel

30 July 2014

Hemel Hempstead 2-5 Reading U21s

  • Youngsters convincingly beat Conference South outfit
  • Dominic Samuel bags brace
  • Tanner, Fosu and Fridjonsson also on scoresheet
Royals U21s picked up an impressive 5-2 friendly victory over Hemel Hempstead Town on Tuesday evening. A Dominic Samuel brace combined with goals from Craig Tanner, Tariqe Fosu and Sammi Fridjonsson eased Martin Kuhl’s men to a win over the recently promoted Conference South outfit.

Reading opened the scoring after a typically flowing move ended in Samuel converting, before Fosu impressively doubled the lead – showing trademark trickery to cut inside and fire into the top corner. Samuel then grabbed a brace after Moussa Diarra’s mistimed back pass set the Academy product through on goal for the third of the evening. Tanner was deservedly on the scoresheet shortly after the interval, turning home after more good wing play – though Hemel to their credit didn’t give up the ghost as quick fire strikes from Lewis Toomey and James Simmonds reduced the arrears. The Royals were not to be denied however, as Icelander Fridjonsson flicked in to complete the scoring. Credit must also go to goalkeeper Dan Lincoln for a number of smart saves throughout the evening.

5-2 it finished – with the U21s set to take on Fulham behind closed doors at Hogwood Park on Friday.

Royals squad: Dan Lincoln, Shane Griffin, Sean Long, Pierce Sweeney, Jake Cooper, Aaron Tshibola, Aaron Kuhl, Liam Kelly, Tariqe Fosu, Dominic Samuel, Craig Tanner, Bogdan Vastsuk, Alex Gogic, Conor Shaughnessy, George McClennan, Nana Owusu, Rob Dickie
