Kirby waits for England start

16 June 2014

Royals striker aims for glory

Reading FC Women striker Fran Kirby was an unused substitute on Saturday as England beat Belarus 3-0 in a FIFA Women's World Cup qualifier.

Following her first ever international call-up, Kirby was not called upon by manager Mark Sampson - but our talented forward will hope to be involved this Thursday away at Ukraine.

Victory in Thursday's 4pm kick off will see England reach next year's FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada; and they have won their first seven qualifiers without conceding a goal so go into the game in confident mood.

Fran's call-up is the next step in her fantastic career so far. Having been with the Reading FC Ladies' team for a number of years, she won the University Games gold medal last year with Team GB, and this England call-up makes her the first ever WSL2 player to make the senior squad.

Everyone at the club would of course like to wish Fran the very best of luck with her country.
