Simod programme raises over £200!

3 June 2014

Charities benefit from Mayor project

A signed Simod Cup Final programme has raised over £200 for charity, after a campaign by The Mayor of Reading, councillor Marian Livingston.

Marian is a lifelong Royals fan with very fond memories of that terrific cup triumph in 1988 - and so decided to embark on a quest to track down the members of that trophy winning side.

Aided by the club's Former Players' Association, the mayor met her heroes and asked them to pen their signature on the programme - before an eBay auction was held to raise funds for her official charities, the White Ribbon Campaign, Reading Sports Aid Fund and Reading Your Way.

FPA Chairman, Richard Wickson said, “It was a pleasure to help. Bar goalkeeper Steve Francis and defender Colin Bailie, we are still in contact with all the players and the management team that were involved that day. Steve’s whereabouts is unknown after he left Northampton Town in 1999 and we know Colin became a Police Officer in Cumbria!”

The final amount raised was £204.01.
