Adkins on Brian respect

Nigel on opposite number

Reading manager Nigel Adkins has reinforced his admiration for Brian McDermott ahead of Tuesday night’s game with Leeds United.

The Royals travel to Elland Road ready to reunite with a number of familiar faces, with McDermott assisted by Nigel Gibbs, and Jimmy Kebe and Noel Hunt involved in the United squad.

“I’ve highlighted many, many times what a great job Brian McDermott did for Reading Football Club,” said Adkins.

“I was surprised as I said at the time when he was removed from his position, but he’s at Leeds United and doing a great job up there. We’ve got to focus on our task in hand now, the games are counting down, and we can look to reproduce what we’ve done at the weekend – we know it’s a challenge but one that we’re looking forward to.

“Elland Road is a fantastic place to go to, really passionate supporters, top drawer supporters who get behind the team and we know it’s going to be a really tough place to play. We have confidence in our players after a very good performance at the weekend, when we played some really good football.”
