Boss: Fans will be key

14 March 2014

Adkins expects challenging fixture

Royals manager Nigel Adkins highlighted the difference our supporters can make at Madejski Stadium, ahead of this Saturday's home game with promotion rivals Derby County.

"We need everybody to get behind us, get behind the players and drive them on because that can make all the difference," he said.

"We're looking forward to another challenging game. Derby have done ever so well. They're above us in the division so if you can get something from the game then it will be beneficial."

The third-placed Rams travel to Berkshire to take on a Royals side buoyed by a win and a draw from two tricky away fixtures in Brighton and Leeds over the past week.

"We've had two excellent away performances and we've picked up four points, and now we're back at home," the boss added.

"To come to Elland Road, score four goals and play the way that we did is fantastic. We've demonstrated all the aspects of football that are required to get ourselves promoted.

"When we beat Derby at their place 3-1, I said before the game I was very impressed with them as a footballing team, and that hasn't changed."
