Boss: Garath a threat

17 March 2014

Adkins speaks on flying winger

Manager Nigel Adkins has emphasised the importance of Garath McCleary, as shown by the number of chances the winger created on Saturday.

McCleary was selected against Derby just a few days after coming off at Leeds with an injury, having set us on the way to a 4-2 win at Elland Road with the first goal of the game.

The 26-year-old set up good chances for Adam Le Fondre, Hope Akpan and Nick Blackman on Saturday, and leads our assists table with 14 goals created this season.

Adkins said after the 0-0 draw, "You just know he's got that turn of pace to go all of a sudden.

"He was raiding down that right hand side and creating opportunities.

"Sometimes his body language looks like he's struggling, we've spoken to him about that but he's a matchwinner for us.

"He's a massive, massive threat."

Garath is aiming to make his 50th start for the club when we travel to Birmingham this Saturday, and he scored his first ever goal for Jamaica earlier this month.
