Youngster on first start
Michael Hector says he was delighted to make his full Reading debut on a big stage this past weekend, as he was named in the starting line up for our 1-1 draw with Brighton.
The 21-year-old centre back lined up alongside Alex Pearce, with Kaspars Gorkss dropping to the bench, and did not look out of place in only his fourth appearance of any kind at Championship level.
“It was a brilliant experience, a great occasion in front of 27,000 and good to play a part in such an important game,” said the centre back.
“It was quick and both teams wanted to try and play from the back – it was interesting to be a part of that type of game. It was a bit nerve wracking but everyone helped me along and gave me encouragement to play. There are a lot of good games coming up, hopefully I can keep my place and keep showing the manager what I can do.”
The Royals jumped back into the play-off places with a point at the AmEx, and although teams lie in wait below them with games in hand – Hector is still focussing on the positives.
“It’s good to have points on the board, that’s the main thing, we are back in the play-off places and hopefully we can stay there. There are a lot of games to go, in the Championship anyone can beat anyone on their day so we just have to keep ticking along. This is a good point away from home – though given the situation we feel like we could have had three.”
