Read below for a factfile on each of the 18 young players that the Royals have offered contracts to.
A talented Academy product, who is a skillful and composed presence in the centre of midfield.
Signed his first professional deal with the club in March 2011 at the age of 16, and agreed to stay at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2014.
Impressed for our under-18s and seamlessly made the transition to our under-21s side, making 20 appearances in the 2013/14 campaign which saw the Royals lift the Premier League Cup.
Promising young left back (below, right) who graduated at the Royals Academy.
A regular in the under-18s during their successful 2012/13 campaign in which we reached the Barclays Premier League Academy final, Griffin showed great ability as a defender and has a fantastic attitude to match.
Signed his first professional contract at Madejski Stadium in the summer of 2013, and played for the first team in a Challenge Match against Oman in September that year.
Made 25 appearances for the under-21s in 2013/14, including every game of Reading’s Premier League Cup winning campaign.
Reliable defender (below, left) who has captained Republic of Ireland at youth level.
Was a regular during our under-18s successful 2012/13 season, helping our side reach the Barclays Under 18s Premier League final.
Sean is normally deployed at right back, proving to be very solid at the back but also capable of pushing forward.
Regularly plays and has captained the Republic of Ireland U19s, and made the substitute's bench for the Royals in January 2014, a 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Brighton.
SCHOLARS TO SIGN FIRST PRO DEALS
An athletic full back who has been with the Royals since 2006. Originally a winger, Nana excels with the ball and has all the necessary physical attributes. Powerful going forwards but also very confident defending, particularly in one-v-one scenarios.
Scored three goals in 27 2013/14 appearances, including two long-range strikes in our superb FA Youth Cup run the to the semi-finals.
Centre-half with all the required physical attributes of a modern footballer. He is strong, quick off the mark and agile. Rob has been with the Reading Academy since he was eight years old.
Dickie made 34 appearances in 2013/14, playing every minute of our FA Youth Cup campaign. Scored in the semi-finals against Fulham, and then made his debut for England under-18s later that month, helping the Three Lions to a 2-1 win over Germany.
Tall left-back who joined the Academy from Gillingham in April 2012. George went from strength to strength after converting from a wide player to full back, and has a great deal of pace.
Unforgettably, George scored the dramatic injury-time equaliser in extra-time of our FA Youth Cup quarter-final against Liverpool, taking the tie to penalties after a thrilling 4-4 draw which the Royals won. Has also represented Scotland at youth level.
The Royals have agreed to sign forward Andrija Novakovich this summer, he arrives from America and is of Serbian descent.
Novakovich is 6 ft 3 in tall and has played for USA at youth level.
U16s TO SIGN SCHOLARSHIPS
- Daniel Akinwumni – full back who enjoyed a successful first season with the under-17s.
- Joshua Barrett – Oxford-born striker who has been with the Royals since the age of eight.
- Harrison Bennett – central defender who has also been at Reading since 2006.
- Joshua Chatte – full back who is set for his second full season with the Royals
- Ryan East – central midfielder who joined Reading in November 2011
- Gabriel-Osho – Reading-born central defender who joined the club seven years ago.
- Luke Southwood – Goalkeeper from Oxford who has been a Royals since the age of eight.
- Justin Thompson-Lee – Left sided midfielder who joined in January 2014.
- Joe Tupper – Shot-stopper who arrived at Reading mid-way through 2013/14
