RFC Women manager on 2-0 winReading FC Women manager Jane Ludlow felt that her side were deserved winners, as they beat Continental Cup holders Arsenal 2-0 on Thursday night.
Goals from Fran Kirby and Lauren Bruton gave the Royals their first win of the tournament after defeat to Chelsea and a draw away to Millwall.
“We played very similar to the Chelsea tactics, but it’s so pleasing to actually finish the game with what we deserve because irrelevant of how we go about it, we deserved that win,” said manager Ludlow, who spent 13 years as an Arsenal player.
“I’d like to think we deserved more than what we got against Chelsea, but tonight the girls have been extremely disciplined.
“They’ve worked extremely hard because that Arsenal side is still a hell of a good team, and for us to keep them out for 90 minutes is a great achievement.
“I played with a lot of them for long enough to know the talent they have, so there’s a sensible part of me playing that way tonight and I’m just pleased to win.”
Reading FC Women will now look forward to Sunday's league game against Durham Women at Farnborough Town FC.
