Pearce: We can do it

1 May 2014

Defender relishing final day

Alex Pearce says the Royals must show grit and determination this Saturday, in order to beat Burnley and secure a place in the Play-Offs of the Sky Bet Championship.

Results elsewhere on the final day of the domestic season could have a bearing on Reading's fate, but the defender is only concerned about taking care of our own business when the Clarets visit Madejski Stadium.

"It's in our hands so we can certainly do it," said the Academy graduate. "We know it's within touching distance if we can take care of business on Saturday.

"Burnley have been magnificent this year and have scored a lot of goals, so we'll have to be on our toes. They have been promoted and have been great this season, but I'm sure they'll have a tough game on Saturday.

"We know we have good players so they'll have a tough time of it and it should be a good game. Teams have always found it hard to come to Madejski.

"It's about showing grit at this time of year. We've put ourselves in the position to go and achieve something, now we have to get over that line and say we are going to do that. We will relish the challenge, go for it and take it with both hands."

In our last home game, the Royals faithful roared Nigel Adkins' men onto victory and Pearce says an atmosphere of that kind will make a huge difference once again this Saturday.

"The Reading fans were great at Middlesbrough in our last home game. We need every one of them to get behind us," he added.

"All these little things can make a difference so if the fans could make it as horrible as possible for Burnley players then we'll be very grateful."
