Scotland's Sheppard and Jules bow outRoyals Academy pair Jake Sheppard and Zak Jules saw their UEFA Under-17 Championship campaign come to an end at the semi-final stage, as Scotland were beaten 5-0 by the Netherlands on Sunday night.
After coming through the qualifying and elite rounds unbeaten, recording impressive wins over the likes of Belgium and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Scotland defeated Germany and Switzerland at the finals to reach the last four.
Right wing Sheppard scored a crucial goal in their final group game to secure qualification, a 3-1 win over Switzerland, while central defender Jules was impressive at the back throughout.
But their fantastic run in the competition fell at the penultimate hurdle as a talented Dutch side, who won this competition in 2011 and 2012, convincingly beat the Scots in Malta.
Sheppard played 54 minutes while Jules played the entire game, and there is much to be proud of for the duo - who were not selected for the opening group stage fixture, a 2-0 defeat to Portugal.
