Swans return for curtain-raiser re-match
Reading Football Club are pleased to announce this summer’s first team pre-season friendly fixture schedule in preparation for the 2014-15 Sky Bet Championship campaign.
The Royals will face three League Two teams, one League One outfit and then host a Premier League club at the end of a summer of preparation ahead of the new season, which starts on the weekend of Saturday 9th August 2014.
Nigel Adkins’ first team players are due back in training on Monday 30th June and Tuesday 1st July but these two days will be spent fitness testing on the south coast and back at the club’s Hogwood Park training facility.
Between Wednesday 2nd July and Saturday 5th July, the players will be spending the rest of their first week back together by taking part in a short UK-based training camp.
The first friendly fixture sees the Royals take on League Two outfit Exeter City at St James Park on Tuesday 15th July at the start of a short pre-season stay in Devon.
Four days later, Reading end their time in the south-west with a Saturday afternoon kick off against League One Yeovil Town at Huish Park before returning to Berkshire.
A week later, Adkins’ side are set to travel to Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park, before a final away friendly at Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium later that week.
The Royals will round off their pre-season friendly schedule with a Madejski Stadium showdown with Premier League side Swansea City, a curtain-raiser one week before the start of the new campaign.
The Swans, then led by Michael Laudrup, ran out 3-0 winners here in a pre-season meeting with the Royals last summer – Michu, Jonjo Shelvey and Pablo Hernandez the scorers as they concluded their build up ahead of their Europa League opener against Malmo last season.
Tuesday 15th July, Exeter City (a), kick-off 7.30pm
Saturday 19th July, Yeovil Town (a), kick-off 3pm
Saturday 26th July, Wycombe Wanderers (a), kick-off 3pm
Tuesday 29th July, Stevenage (a), kick off 7.30pm
