Williams' home comforts

9 May 2014

Danny happy with the Royals

After reflecting on his first season in English football, Danny Williams says he feels well and truly at home at Madejski Stadium.

The 25-year-old arrived from 1899 Hoffenheim in the summer of 2012 – and despite an injury plagued season, was voted third in the Royals’ player of the season standings.

“I feel very comfortable here is in this club,” said Williams.

“I make friends here, I enjoyed playing football here this season. I was dealing with injuries again and again which is frustrating, especially at the end of the season. But everyone – the team, the staff, the players and the fans did their best. Now I am just focusing on my recovery so I can try my best to help the team go up next year.”

The American international had a fans perspective on a heartbreaking final day clash with Burnley, with injury forcing him to watch from the executive suites – meaning he was one of the first in the stadium to see Brighton’s galling late winner.

“I was in a box and was watching the other game at the same time, so I saw what happened. What more can you say. So disappointing. We had some chances, it’s frustrating because we created lots of chances and scored two great goals. It’s a bit unfortunate.  I think we showed that we wanted to win, I think you could see that.”
