Dedicated to the fallen

7 November 2014

"The Royal" remembers

This weekend our matchday programme 'The Royal' dedicates itself  to all those who have fought, continue to fight and will fight for their country.

It features the stories of nine men who played for Reading Football Club at the outbreak of the First World War, before making the ultimate sacrifice.

On the front cover, a special design featuring our squad of today and the Biscuitmen of a hundred years ago, whilst the back cover represents all 44 men from the club who took to the battlefields in World War One.

The matchday magazine also examines how young players of today are set to pay their own personal tribute to those brave men 100 years ago.

Copies will be available around the ground, with the 84-page edition priced at £3.

As part of the 100-year commemoration, the Football League is running a campaign called #BidToRemember, which gives fans the opportunity to bid for the Royals' match-worn shirts. Click here for details.

The campaign is also working in conjunction with Goals Soccer Centres to give away free, poppy-printed captains armbands. More information here.
