In The Royal: Eamonn's Anniversary

4 November 2014

Tonight's matchday programme

The Reading FC Academy began in the summer of 1999, and since then 34 players have gone on to play first team football for the Royals.

An impressive stat - and one that drove 'The Royal' to speak to Academy Manager Eamonn Dolan to mark his 10th anniversary at the club. From the early years of Alex Haddow, Darius Henderson and Nathan Tyson to seeing Gylfi Sigurdsson grace the Champions League, it has been a remarkable journey for the former West Ham forward.

"In the last ten years, this Academy has seen huge change – a quantum leap for Reading," Dolan told the matchday magazine. "In that time, we’ve had two promotions to the Premier League, two ownership changes and four different first team managers, so I have witnessed a lot of change. But what I have also seen is a common thread of stability which has been vitally important for our success and the Academy’s development."

Elsewhere in the issue, we examine the career of former Reading man Bob Lenarduzzi, whilst appropriately in the week leading up to our remembrance game with Charlton, historian Alan Sedunary takes a look back our war torn footballing year of 1914.

Naturally manager Nigel Adkins and captain Jem Karacan also give their latest thoughts, whilst quizzes such as the 106 Point Challenge with give fans a chance to test their brains in the half time break!
