Defender back in contentionNigel Adkins has revealed that Anton Ferdinand is set to be part of the squad for Saturday's trip to Norwich City.
The centre back picked up a calf injury during his debut against Rotherham at Madejski Stadium earlier in the month, but took part in a training match at Hogwood Park this week and should travel to Carrow Road.
"Anton trained earlier in the week and we’ve just had a game amongst ourselves which is another step forward for him," said Adkins. "All being well he will be in the squad on Saturday but there's a long way to go still. He has missed a lot of football this season."
The manager also gave an update on a number of other Royals stars battling back from injury.
"He's seen several specialists. He's not on the training ground with the first team but our medical team are working extremely hard with him. He's not ready to kick a ball in anger for us."
"Jem has started running again now. We’ve got to be patient with him. The surgeon is very happy and very positive with the outcome of his knee. A little bit of swelling came up the other day so we’ve just got to manage that correctly. Sometimes you just have to go through some of the hiccups when they arise and that’s what happening at the moment. It's very frustrating for Jem and for us."
"Garath performed for 45 minutes against Cardiff the other night and has had a bit more progression on the training ground in the game we had amongst ourselves. It’s all moving in the right direction from his point of view. Now he's available he's just going to get fitter and stronger."
