Kirby takes WSL2 award

Striker names Player of the Year

Reading FC Women's striker Fran Kirby completed an extraordinary week on Friday by being named as the FA WSL 2 Players’ Player of the Year.

Earlier on the same day the 21-year-old became the first female player in her club's history to turn professional, and it was apt therefore that she received the gong at the FA Women's Awards.

Kirby was also picked up a trophy as the WSL2 top scorer, with 24 goals in 16 league games - finding the net 29 times in 22 appearances overall.

Former Royals boss Jayne Ludlow was also nominated for the WSL Manager of the Year, after she steered Reading to a third placed finish before taking up a post with the Welsh national team.
