McCleary gets all clear after scan

5 November 2014

Green light given to winger after back injury absence

Royals winger Garath McCleary could be back in contention for a first team return soon after he received the all clear after a check-up scan on his back injury.

The midfield star last played against Burnley on the final day of last season and has been missing since surgery on a back problem in the summer.

But after a scan to determine whether the injury has healed correctly this afternoon, McCleary received the green light and will now be pushing to reclaim a first team place.

"Garath’s got the all clear and it's great news," manager Nigel Adkins said after our 3-0 win over Rotherham.

"He's another one like Danny Williams who hadn’t played since last season, so he can step it up now with the confidence that he should be free of injury.

"All being well, he should be able to get himself involved from here on in.

"He needs more game time but we can start to consider him."

Williams made his first start of the season in the Tuesday night victory against the Millers, while Anton Ferdinand played his first 45 minutes for the club.

News of the end of McCleary's injury absence will be more good news for Royals supporters ahead of a home game against Charlton at the weekend.
