Adkins: Lapses cost us again

21 October 2014

Boss hurting after 3-0 defeat

Nigel Adkins admits that defensive lapses once again cost his team as they went down 3-0 to Bournemouth.

We were the better team in the first half and hit the post on the half hour, but three goals in quick succession after the break put paid to any chance we had of a result.

The boss said, "First half was alright, we hit the post and at half time we're looking to build on a 0-0, but goals change the complexion of the games, and they were in the ascendancy. They're a good side and deserved to win.

"Sometimes it's a game of inches. That seems to be how it's going for us at the moment, but we'll keep grinding away and keep the basics right, keep the belief. All being well if we do that then it helps us for the next game, and we need to win that one now.

"First half we looked solid but it's lapses of concentration and the goals are hurting us. We've got to buckle down, grind away and keep the belief. We're passionate about what we do and we work very hard, that's how you get through it.

"We've had many adversities all the way through, but we've got to win more games. It's results driven, we have to win games. We've got to keep the spirit right, and all we can affect now is the next game.

"You find out more about people when things go against you. We'll reflect on this and get ready for the next one against Blackpool.

"We need to keep our morale high, and I said to the players that we face a challenge now. We need to look in the mirror, take responsibility and embrace the challenge, not wilt away."
